On Friday, Oct. 19th, the Husson English Society will host a story slam in the Meeting House Atrium from 11am to 1pm.
Oct. 19th is the National Day of Writing and to bolster interest in writing and story telling, the English Society decided the 19th would be an ideal day to hold the competition. Emily Hanna, English Society President explains: “The purpose of the story slam, and the National Day of Writing in general, is to get the community excited about writing and our amazing ability to use language”
The theme for the story slam is “Notes, Letters, and Quotes.” Participants can interpret it in their own way. Stories ideas can come from inspirational quotes, funny notes from roommates or meaningful letters from a family member. Touching, humorous or even challenging, the theme has potential for everyone to bring something to share. Hanna adds “The English Society hopes to show that writing is both an essential tool for success and a fun form of self-expression; we hope to show that writing matters!”
Stories will be limited to 5 minutes and students can register to tell their story by emailing Karina Hernandez at firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include full name, school you attend (Husson/NESCom) and what time you’d like to share your story. The winner will win $100 cash. All Husson & NESCom students are welcome and encouraged to attend the story slam on October 9th at 11AM in the Meeting House Atrium.
